Resize Divi-Style Gallery Thumbnails

Written by Dan Mossop

The Divi theme includes the option to replace the standard WordPress gallery with a Divi-style gallery (which, while not a module, resembles the galleries generated by the Gallery Module). By default the gallery image sizes are cropped to 400x284px. Here's how to change the thumbnail size.

Resize the Images with PHP

There is no option to change the thumbnail sizes on the front-end. There is, however, a way to do it using PHP.

First, you need to add the following PHP code to your site:

add_filter('et_theme_image_sizes', 'db_resize_divi_gallery_images');

function db_resize_divi_gallery_images($sizes) {
    unset($sizes['400x284']);
    $sizes['225x225'] = 'et-pb-portfolio-image';
    return $sizes;
}

That will let you change the default size of the images. You can change the 225×225 part of the code to get a different size. Keeping the width / height the same will give you square images.

Finally, once the code is added you need to regenerate the images with a plugin such as this:

Once installed, go to "WP dashboard > Tools > Regenerate Thumbnails" and click regenerate. You should only need to do it once to resize your existing images. After that, newly uploaded images should be resized correctly on upload.
