Extra Theme by Elegant Themes

Written by Dan Mossop

Elegant Themes are looking to follow up on the huge success of their Divi Theme with a new magazine-style theme called "Extra".

The guys at Elegant Themes haven't announced a release date for the Extra theme. In mid-October ET founder Nick Roach said that Extra could be ready by early-November, but just yesterday he posted this comment:

"I am sorry that Extra is taking so long. It’s equally difficult to estimate the completion of a project, which is why we are always hesitant to give any ETA’s. We are working as hard as we can to finish it, and it will be released as soon as it is ready."

With any luck we'll see a release in time for Christmas.

Here's what we know about Extra so far:

  • It will focus mainly on posts, whereas Divi focused mainly on pages
  • It will be possible to customize category pages differently from the homepage
  • It will have highly customizable headers
  • There will be a product rating system (usable on any post) and a user rating system
  • Like Divi, it will be compatible with WooCommerce
  • There will be a variety of post formats such as article, audio, gallery, quote, video, map, and link post formats
  • It'll be responsive, with flexible layouts
  • Extra won't include the page builder, as the focus is on posts not pages
    • It won't be possible to switch a blog from Divi to Extra as a result
  • It won't support IE8 (Elegant Themes no longer support IE8 in general)

I'll be providing tips for Extra on this site once it is released, as I do for Divi, Aggregate and other themes. So be sure to drop by with your questions once it's released.
