Fix PDF Embedder Overlapped by Content Below in Divi

Written by Dan Mossop

The PDF Embedder plugin lets you easily embed PDFs in your pages. When embedding PDFs in your Divi site, you might encounter an issue where the footer or other content overlaps the embedded PDF. Here's how to fix it.

This issue occurs when the PDF is added using the Gutenberg "File" block. In this situation, the embedded PDF is set to absolute positioning by default, and as a result doesn't occupy any space in the document flow. Consequently, subsequent content moves up and may overlap the PDF.

Fix Content Overlapping PDF Embedder PDFs using CSS

Fortunately, there's a straightforward CSS solution to ensure that your PDFs maintain their place on the page without being overlapped by other content elements.

You can correct the overlapping issue by applying the following CSS code. This code changes the positioning of the PDF from absolute to relative, thereby allowing it to occupy space in the document flow and preventing other content from overlapping it.

.wp-block-file .fluid-width-video-wrapper object[type="application/pdf"] {
    position: relative !important;
}

You can add this code in the style.css file of a child theme, or at:

WP Admin > Divi > Theme Options > General > Custom CSS

That's it! After implementing this CSS tweak, the PDF should display correctly without being cut off by other elements on your page.
