Configuring Multi-Site Breadcrumbs in Divi

Written by Dan Mossop

Some large Divi sites are split across multiple domains or subdomains. For example, you may have main site, and then some sections of the site hosted on another domain. Here's how you can set up Divi Breadcrumbs Module to create seamless breadcrumbs, which include both the main site and, if applicable, the sub-site home page.

Set the Home Link to the Main Site

On your subsites / subdomains, configure your breadcrumbs module like so:

Breadcrumbs Settings > Content > Breadcrumbs > Use Custom Home URL = Yes
Breadcrumbs Settings > Content > Breadcrumbs > Custom Home URL = *URL of your main site*

For example:

Add the Subsite Home Page Link

We can add a link to the subsite's homepage, using some PHP code like so:

add_filter('et_pb_dmb_breadcrumbs_crumbs', 'dbc_add_subsite_breadcrumb');

function dbc_add_subsite_breadcrumb($crumbs) {
	if (is_array($crumbs) && !empty($crumbs)) {
		$crumbs = array_merge(
			array_slice($crumbs, 0, 1),
			array(
				array(
					'text' => 'Subsite Home',
					'url' => 'https://subsite.mainsite.com'
				)
			),
			array_slice($crumbs, 1)
		);
	}
	return $crumbs;
}

You can add this into the functions.php file of a child theme, or via a plugin such as Code Snippets.

You should change the 'text' and 'url' lines to match your subsite / subdomain name and URL.

After adding the code, you should see the Subsite Home link added to your breadcrumbs, like so:

We may earn a commission when you visit links on our website.
