Enable Divi Dynamic Content on CSS ID and CSS Class Fields

Written by Dan Mossop

This post describes how to enable Divi's dynamic content on the CSS ID and CSS Class fields. Dynamic content in CSS ID and CSS Class fields can streamline your workflow. It allows you to, for example, dynamically set CSS ID & classes for elements within templates, based on the value of a custom field.

Enable Dynamic Content on CSS ID and CSS Class Fields using PHP

Fortunately, adding this functionality can be achieved with a simple code snippet. Here’s the standalone PHP code to enable dynamic content on these fields. It can be added in the functions.php file of a child theme, or using a plugin such as Code Snippets:

add_filter('et_builder_module_general_fields', 'db_enable_dynamic_content_on_css_fields', 10);

function db_enable_dynamic_content_on_css_fields($fields) {
    // Enable dynamic content on CSS ID field
    if (isset($fields['module_id']) && is_array($fields['module_id'])) {
        $fields['module_id']['dynamic_content'] = 'text';
    }
    // Enable dynamic content on CSS Class field
    if (isset($fields['module_class']) && is_array($fields['module_class'])) {
        $fields['module_class']['dynamic_content'] = 'text';
    }
    return $fields;
}

  1. This worked for me, many thanks for the solution!
    I wonder why this functionality is disabled by default, especially when it's so easy to activate.

    • You're very welcome, Brian! I'm not sure why it isn't enabled. There's a sort of behind the scenes implementation of dynamic content for all fields, but it sometimes needs tweaking to get it to work on a given field type. Perhaps they tested and enabled it on a set of fields they thought it would be useful on and left it disabled on the rest. But yeah, I'm not really sure. I can certainly see uses for dynamically setting the CSS ID and CSS Class fields.
